Kingsport, Tenn. was buzzing with energy this past Saturday as the beloved “Cycling on the Glow” event returned to the Kingsport Greenbelt. The special themed ride, dubbed “Gobble and Ride,” invited cyclists of all ages to brighten up the paths with their glowing bikes, a heartwarming sight for families and friends alike.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the Greenbelt transformed into a twinkling spectacle. Riders came equipped with all sorts of lights, making the event not only a bike ride but a dazzling display of creativity. Participants included everyone from kids pedaling with excitement to seasoned cyclists showcasing their flair for decoration.
“So everybody’s bikes are glowing,” said Tony Williams, co-owner of Reedy Creek Bicycles. “By the end, it’s a great chance to meet new riders, get a chance to ride with your sons and daughters, and just have a good time. We work with the city on a bunch of things.”
Williams emphasized that the cycling community in Kingsport is a “growing and ever-changing” group. It’s diverse, including kids, retired seniors, and everyone in between. “Cycling is a passion of ours,” he continued. “I speak for myself and for the guys that just ride bicycles. And I know some people working for Parks and Recreation. It’s a lifestyle choice that we really enjoy. Sharing that with others is a blast!”
The event was organized by Kingsport Parks and Recreation, who do a fantastic job in fostering such community activities. For those who missed out on the glowing fun, there’s no need to fret! Another night ride is already on the books for December 14th. Rumor has it that Santa Claus might just cruise by on his own bike to join in the festivities!
Cycling isn’t just an activity; it’s an experience that brings people together. Whether you’re riding solo or with a group, there’s an undeniable freedom that comes with pedaling through the great outdoors. The event is a perfect representation of how cycling fosters relationships and encourages an active lifestyle.
Families enjoyed the shared space, laughter ringing out as they rode side by side and explored the illuminated trails together. With every cycle of the pedals, connections were made and memories were cherished.
If you’re inspired to get involved, why not consider joining the thriving cycling community of Kingsport? Not only will you discover the joy of riding, but you’ll also have a chance to take part in exciting upcoming events like the night ride in December, all while making new friends and enjoying the fresh air.
As the cycling scene continues to grow in Kingsport, it’s clear that events like “Cycling on the Glow” aren’t just about the bicycles. They’re about building connections, sharing experiences, and celebrating the vibrancy of community life. So gather your family, liven up your bikes, and prepare for another magical ride under the stars!
