On March 5th, 2024, The Crooked Road, a 330-mile-long musical driving trail in Virginia, announced its plans for a slew of community events. This year is momentous as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Carter Family Fold and the Birth Place of Country Music’s ten-year milestone.
A symbol of Virginia’s rich musical heritage, The Crooked Road connects over ten primary venues and more than 50 affiliate sites dedicated to celebrating the state’s traditional musical roots. From mountain music to bluegrass, gospel, and more, The Crooked Road is a living tribute to the sounds of Appalachia.
This year’s series of events take on a special significance as they celebrate two substantial anniversaries. The Carter Family Fold, a staple music venue on The Crooked Road, is celebrating five decades of music and culture. At the same time, the Birth Place of Country Music, a dedicated music museum in Bristol, is marking its ten-year anniversary.
The respective leaders of both institutions have collaboratively planned these community events, aiming to involve citizens in this joyous occasion. Sharing in the heritage of Virginia’s music while rejoicing in the current state of the region’s culture forms the heart of the festivities.
This year The Crooked Road is working alongside the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion music festival. The Executive Director of the reunion is thrilled about the lineup of artists from The Crooked Road region performing at the festival. He sees the festival as an amplification of the partnership’s potency, especially on the occasion of their anniversaries.
