Johnson City is gearing up for a fantastic event that promises to be both informative and enjoyable! This Saturday, September 21, the Johnson City Community Health Center (JCCHC) will be hosting its annual Community Health Fair. Although this year’s fair has been moved from its usual August slot, it promises to retain all the fun and valuable health resources that make it a beloved event in the community.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the health fair will take place at the JCCHC, located at 2151 Century Lane. Attendees can look forward to a lively atmosphere filled with door prizes, delicious food, and crucial health care services. Best of all, everything at the fair is free! This is a great opportunity to take charge of your health and connect with local providers.
While you enjoy the festivities, you can also receive free health screenings and speak to health care professionals about any questions or concerns you might have. Don’t forget to roll up your sleeve for a flu shot, which will also be available on-site. A representative from the health center, Vanessa Smith, shares her excitement, saying, “This event is always so much fun, and we are excited to welcome the community back to our clinic for an afternoon of fun, learning, and health care.”
One of the main goals of the Community Health Fair is to help alleviate any worries people may have when it comes to seeking health care. Vanessa adds, “Our goal is to help break down some of the uneasiness people can have when seeking health care and support a healthier community by making health care approachable and fun for the whole family.” This is all about creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone to explore their health options.
In addition to the health screenings and consultations, this year’s fair also boasts a community garden harvest. The garden is back this year thanks to the hard work of community partners, staff, and volunteers. “Health is so much more than just visiting the doctor’s office,” Smith explains. “This is just one more avenue for us to help support our patients and community by providing them with access to fresh, healthy produce.” So be sure to check out what the garden has to offer—it’s a great way to embrace healthy eating!
The JCCHC is dedicated to offering evidence-based care for a variety of patient needs, including primary care, prenatal care, and socialization support. It is one of the few nurse-managed community health centers in the nation that holds the designation of a Federally Qualified Health Center, meaning it meets a range of national standards for quality health care services.
As part of the ETSU College of Nursing’s network of nurse-managed health centers, the JCCHC also houses the ETSU Charitable Pharmacy, which has been serving the community for ten years now. This long-standing commitment to community health speaks volumes about the center’s role in supporting the health and well-being of Johnson City residents.
If you’re in Johnson City, make sure to mark your calendar for this Saturday’s Community Health Fair! It’s a perfect chance to engage with health resources, learn something new, and have a great time with family and friends. We hope to see you there for a day filled with health, fun, and community spirit!
