Hello, wonderful residents of Carter County! We’re back with the weekly scoop on disaster assistance resources available for all of you who have been affected by the recent chaos caused by Hurricane Helene. Whether you’re looking for housing help, employment resources, or health services, we’ve got all the latest info for you right here!
First things first, if you need some on-the-ground assistance, the Disaster Resource Centers (DRCs) are open and ready to help! These centers are your go-to spots for support, operating Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Don’t hesitate to swing by; our amazing teams are there to lend a hand!
Got some storm debris? The lovely folks at the Tennessee Forestry Resources team are gearing up for their final debris pickups from December 2 to December 13. To request a debris pickup, just shoot an email to debris@cartercountytn.gov. And if you prefer, you can drop off your storm-related debris at the Carter County Landfill at no cost. Just remember to bring along proof of residency. Let’s keep our beautiful community clean!
To keep everyone healthy during this recovery period, the Carter County Health Department is rolling out free immunizations! Residents can get their Tdap, Hepatitis A, and flu vaccines without any charge. You can walk in anytime from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 400 E. G St., Elizabethton. It’s a great opportunity, especially for those of you getting back into cleanup mode. Remember, if you have any open wounds, steer clear of floodwaters to minimize infection risks!
If you’re on the job hunt, we’ve got your back! The county is coordinating various employment assistance programs. Keep an eye out for updates or visit the DRCs for more information. Your future is shining bright, and we’re here to help you tap into exciting opportunities!
Exciting news on the connectivity front! SkyBest Internet installations in Carter County are moving forward, despite some delays from the hurricane. The goal is to have everything wrapped up by the first quarter of 2025. Temporary connections are set up in several areas, and the next phase will involve rigorous testing to ensure everything runs smoothly. If you’re in Little Milligan or Tiger Valley, especially in service-ready areas, pre-register at fiber.skybest.com. SkyBest will reach out to finalize your internet service installation soon!
Don’t forget! Monthly office hours with District 4 State Rep. Renea Jones are happening on the first Friday of each month, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Mayor’s Conference Room at the Carter County Courthouse. This is a great chance to voice your concerns or ask questions about local issues. Be sure to mark your calendars!
If you’re in need of more resources or have questions, check out the Carter County’s official website for all the latest info or give the Citizen Information Hotline a call at 423-979-4689. We’re all in this together, and we want to ensure that you have every bit of support needed to recover stronger than ever before!
That’s all for now, folks! Stay safe, stay informed, and let’s keep supporting one another through this recovery journey!
