It all started back in January 1958 when the inaugural group of Calendar Girls debuted. That first feature consisted solely of students from Elizabethton High School, making it a special moment for the community. Over the years, this tradition has evolved. Now, girls from six high schools in the area are included in the selection process—Elizabethton High School, along with Carter County’s Cloudland, Hampton, Happy Valley, Unaka, and Johnson County High School. It’s an amazing way to showcase the talent, charm, and creativity of young women from across the region.
Citizens Bank has been a tremendous supporter of the Calendar Girls feature since its inception, playing a crucial role in helping sustain this cherished event. Thanks to local support, these girls get the recognition they deserve, helping to create memories that last a lifetime.
This year’s selection for the 2025 Calendar Girls is sure to impress with a fabulous lineup of young women. Each girl represents a different month, showcasing their unique personalities and passions. Here’s the exciting list:
In a bittersweet twist, the community recently mourned the loss of Sonya Young Sams, the very first Calendar Girl, who passed away on October 20, 2023, at the age of 83.
