The Buck Van Huss Dome, one of the landmarks of Kingsport’s educational facilities, has been undergoing massive renovations. These modifications started in August 2022 following structural compromises that led to its closure. The Dome, serving as one of the main entertainment venues of Dobyns-Bennett High School, has seen significant progress through its ongoing renovation efforts. With an estimated completion scheduled for the upcoming winter, the project claims more than just a facelift for the Dome — it translates into a safer, more amicable space for the Kingsport community.
This renovation project not only targets structural enhancements, but it also considers several other aesthetic improvements including redesigned seating, improved flooring, and an upgraded score board. “This renovation is more than just fixing a roof; it’s an upliftment of the venue as an entirety”, shared the assistant superintendent of Kingsport City Schools.
What stands out in this renovation is the focus on safety. Amid the makeover plans, there’s a concerted effort to make the entrance safer for the visitors. “The Activities’ Office is committed to ensuring that the community, while accessing the Dome, will not have to walk through the student areas of the school. This crucial safety upgrade forms a vital part of our renovation project”, emphasized the school official.
Along with an enhanced and safer entrance, the project also considers various segments of the venue for refurbishment. The plan includes replacing the existing seats with modern, comfortable versions, along with laying new flooring. For the sporting exhilaration at the Dome, the project integrates an advanced digital score board, a valuable addition that is sure to elevate the sporting experiences of the spectators.
With the progress in full swing, the renovation is earmarked to be wrapped up by the end of this year’s winter. The new and improved Buck Van Huss Dome signifies more than just an upgraded structure – it symbolizes a safer, brighter, and future-ready venue for the Dobyns-Bennett High School and the broader Kingsport community. Leaders at Kingsport City Schools are optimistic about the final product, assuring that upon completion, the Dome will provide not only a better experience to the community but also an improved environment for the students.
The Buck Van Huss Dome renovation is thus a comprehensive project, integrating aesthetics, functionality, and safety, aimed to empower the community with a state-of-the-art infrastructure that stands as a testament to the commitment to quality education and community safety at Dobyns-Bennett High School.
