Sponsor Our ArticlesBristol, Tennessee, celebrates community hero Lukas Roberts, honored for his bravery in a critical incident. Meanwhile, police pursue arson charges against two juveniles and announce an indictment in a cold case homicide. The city showcases the importance of vigilance and community spirit.
If you are in or around Bristol, Tennessee, you may want to pay attention to some recent news that touches both on heroism and a long-standing mystery. As the warmer months approach, the city’s heart is alive with stories of bravery and justice.
On April 2, 2025, the Bristol Tennessee Police Department (BTPD) took a moment to recognize the courage of one of Bristol’s very own: Lukas Roberts. He received the prestigious Citizen Appreciation Award for his selfless act last summer when he bravely restrained a disruptive individual at his business.
In a world where community interactions can sometimes take a sharp turn, Roberts stood tall amidst chaos. The incident involved a suspect who made threatening remarks toward customers and staff, including physically attacking a female customer. Thanks to Roberts, the situation didn’t escalate any further. The BTPD commended him for his remarkable courage, leadership, and concern for the well-being of those around him.
This story has ignited conversations across social media platforms, where the Chief of Police emphasized how vital it is to have more individuals ready to step up when their community needs them the most. It’s worth applauding heroes like Roberts who inspire us all!
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from this fire, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. However, the severity of the charges reflects the danger posed by such reckless behavior. The young defendants face multiple serious charges: aggravated arson, aggravated criminal trespassing, burglary, and felony vandalism. The community is on high alert as these charges illustrate the need for vigilance and accountability among its younger members.
Matney was last seen at a business on West State Street, and although his vehicle was found parked in the area, the case grew cold over the years. However, thanks to some new information that surfaced in 2024, authorities were able to point to Havrilla as a suspect. He was arrested on March 14, 2025, in Orange Beach, Alabama, by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and was subsequently extradited to Tennessee.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to believe that others in the community might have vital information that could aid in the case. The Bristol Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are encouraging anyone who might have details related to this long-standing mystery to step forward. You never know how your small piece of information could make a big difference!
Bristol is certainly a place where the spirit of community shines through, whether it’s celebrating heroes or seeking justice for those affected by crime. Stay informed, stay engaged, and let’s keep our community safe and strong!
