Bristol Casino Generates Over $14.3 Million in June Revenues

Revenue Breakdown

The Bristol Casino in Virginia has reported an impressive $14.3 million in adjusted gross revenues (AGR) for June, according to information released by the Virginia Lottery. The casino’s AGR came primarily from its 907 slot machines which brought in over $12 million, and 29 table games that generated more than $2.3 million. This total follows an even higher AGR of over $15.4 million that was reported in May 2024.

The casino’s tax contributions for the commonwealth totaled more than $2.5 million. These funds will be allocated to initiatives such as the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund, the Family and Children’s Trust Fund, and the host locality. Furthermore, a portion of the taxes from the Bristol Casino designed for the host locality will go to the Regional Improvement Commission for broader revenue sharing throughout Southwest Virginia.

Tax Allocation

The detailed allocation of funds is as follows: the Regional Improvement Commission will receive $861,014.88, the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund will get $20,664.36, and the Family and Children’s Trust Fund will secure $5,166.09. The remaining balance of $1,696,199.31 will stay in the Gaming Proceeds Fund.

A Look at Bristol Casino

Since its opening in July 2022, Bristol Casino has consistently shown increasing revenues, experiencing its highest earnings in March 2024 with over $16.2 million. The casino’s grand opening of its permanent resort, initially slated for mid-2024, has been delayed until late fall to align with recent legislation allowing casino operators an additional six months to finalize their projects.

This change follows the completion of specific requirements and financial commitments as per the law and applies to cases where the temporary casino is part of the permanent establishment. Despite the delay in the grand opening, work is actively ongoing with the permanent casino and hotel’s construction with significant visible progress.

The casino’s license was granted by the Virginia Lottery Board to Hard Rock Bristol in April 2022, and the temporary facility located at the former Bristol Mall opened to the public shortly after in July 2022.

Regulatory Oversight

Regulatory oversight of casino gaming in Virginia has been under the jurisdiction of the Virginia Lottery since 2020. The taxes generated from casino gaming activities are directed towards various priorities as determined by the General Assembly.
