Bristol, Tenn. – On Saturday, August 24, the Bristol Motor Speedway was buzzing with energy as it hosted the sixth annual Bristol Burnout event. Organized by the Speedway Children’s Charities, this functional fitness competition brought together fitness enthusiasts from all walks of life to help raise money for children in need.
The atmosphere was electric as participants competed in various fitness challenges. The event featured different divisions, including RX, RX-ish, and Scaled Three-Person teams, ensuring a wide range of competitors. Participants tested their strength, endurance, and teamwork in a setting that felt more like a community festival than a high-stakes competition.
Betsy Holleman, the director of Speedway Children’s Charities, was thrilled with the turnout and the impact the event continues to have. “We’ve got some amazing people on board that help make this day a whole lot easier. This idea started just as an interest in gaining more community members, more advocates for Speedway Children’s Charities, and the CrossFit community is so tight-knit, we thought, ‘Why not engage with them?’ And they’ve been super generous over the years,” she said.
Holleman emphasized that the event is not just about raising funds but also about bringing the community together for a noble cause. “Well, it’s not only fun,” she added. “These people love to work out and compete. And so doing that for a cause for statewide children’s charities makes it that much more fun.”
The event was sponsored by TopBox Fitness, a local fitness establishment that has been a consistent supporter of Bristol Burnout. The sponsorship allowed the event to scale its impact, reaching more people and raising more funds. Holleman mentioned how essential local businesses are in making such events successful. “The support from local gyms and businesses has been overwhelming. They help spread the word, gather participants, and even volunteer during the event. It’s a whole community effort,” she stated.
The competitors, ranging from seasoned athletes to fitness newcomers, showed incredible spirit. Teams were seen encouraging each other, sharing tips, and even celebrating small victories together. This camaraderie highlighted the event’s primary goal – fostering a supportive community atmosphere while doing good.
Many participants echoed Holleman’s sentiments about the community aspect. “This is my third year participating, and it’s always a blast. The best part is knowing that our sweat and effort are going towards helping kids who really need it,” said one enthusiastic competitor. Another participant, a first-timer, remarked, “I signed up because my gym buddies were coming, but I’m definitely coming back next year. It’s so well-organized, and you can feel the positive energy everywhere.”
The funds raised from the event will go towards various programs supported by Speedway Children’s Charities. These programs aim to provide essential resources such as healthcare, educational opportunities, and recreational activities for children in need throughout the state. The importance of such initiatives cannot be overstated, especially in times when funding for children’s programs can be uncertain.
As the day wrapped up, it was clear that the Bristol Burnout had once again succeeded in its mission. Participants left the venue tired but fulfilled, knowing they had contributed to a greater cause. The organizers promised that the event would come back even bigger and better next year, with plans already in motion to bring in more participants and sponsors.
