Elizabethton, a charming city nestled in the heart of Carter County, is buzzing with exciting news! The Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County (BGCECC) has officially joined hands with Ballad Health to enhance their Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program. This partnership is not just another collaboration; it’s part of a bigger mission under the Community Health Improvement (CHI) Sites initiative aimed at tackling some pressing health and social issues in the community.
In today’s world, children and teens face various challenges that impact their mental and emotional well-being. Recognizing this need, the BGCECC has been actively promoting and implementing its SEL program, which is designed to equip club members with essential tools to navigate their social, emotional, and mental health needs. Thanks to this new partnership, the club is set to enhance its resources, making a real difference not only for members but also for their families and the wider community.
Over the upcoming fiscal year 2025, the BGCECC is excited to engage approximately 200 members in their SEL program, bringing the benefits of emotional and social support right to their doorstep. With this partnership, five different SEL groups have sprouted up, each catering to unique needs:

This partnership doesn’t just stop at the club level; it aims to strengthen the entire community by enhancing the staff’s skills to better support the members’ SEL needs. Through working closely with local schools and organizations, Ballad Health is committed to improving health outcomes across the region, focusing on the Appalachian Highlands.
As part of the CHI Sites initiative, Ballad Health is investing a whopping $3.5 million into 48 regional organizations, including the BGCECC. This investment reflects a deep commitment to empowering communities and addressing social determinants of health. With BGCECC now a key player in this initiative, the club is poised to offer even more comprehensive social and emotional support to its members and their families.
