Five Charged with Attempted Murder in Connection With Brutal Attack

In what has shocked the usually peaceful community of Carter County, Tennessee, five individuals have been apprehended and charged with attempted murder following an attack that roughly took place nine months ago.

Details of the Attack

On August 19, 2023, local authorities were called to the Stoney Creek area of Carter County. There, they discovered a 29-year-old man left with severe head injuries. Facilitated by a brave family member who narrated the horrifying acts to them, the local law enforcement officers learned that the victim had been assaulted by a mob using a baseball bat, brass knuckles, and astonishingly, a cast iron skillet. This sustained assault resulted in a skull fracture, leaving him in a critical state.

The Suspects and their Charges

These heinous acts led the authorities down a strenuous investigational journey. However, the relentless efforts of the local officers resulted in the identification of five suspects believed to be involved in the assault. The charges levied against them were unveiled on May 8, 2024, and are as follows:

  • Jerry A. Carden Jr., 33: Charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault (weapon), tampering with evidence, and filing a false report.
  • Meesha Brieanne Williams, 32: Charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault (weapon), tampering with evidence, and filing a false report.
  • Kelvin Lynn Bradley Jr., 24: Charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and aggravated assault (weapon).
  • Daniel A. Shearl, 19: Charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and aggravated assault (weapon).
  • Jeffery Scott Brooks Jr., 21: Charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and aggravated assault (weapon).

The bail for all the suspects was set at $25,000. As per the latest update, all suspects were able to post bail, excluding Daniel A. Shearl, who remains in custody.
