A Day of Free Services and Connections
The fair was completely free for all veterans and their families, making it a fantastic opportunity for them to gather and gain access to a wealth of services. Hundreds drifted into the venue, where over 150 vendors lined the area, offering everything from medical services to essential food provisions. Guests met with various local organizations designed to uplift and assist military personnel and their families.
Meet the Organizations
Among the organizations present, veterans had the chance to connect with well-known names such as Second Harvest Food Bank, RAM Dental Services, and Providence Medical Group. These organizations provide necessary support services crucial to the wellbeing of veterans. Military organizations like the U.S. Veterans Administration (VA), American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) were also participating, ensuring that veterans had access to an abundance of resources.
Veteran-Owned Vendors Shine Bright
Additionally, the fair showcased several veteran-owned vendors proudly displaying unique products. This not only provided them with a platform to share their crafts but also fostered a sense of community and connection among attendees.
Supporting One Another
The fair, skillfully organized by the non-profit Warrior’s Canvas & Veterans Art Center, offered a warm and inviting atmosphere where veterans could gather, share experiences, and support each other. Organizer Maria Whiston expressed that events like this are crucial for fostering camaraderie and empowerment among military families.
Thrilling Activities for All
Beyond just resources, there was plenty of entertainment to be had! The crowd enjoyed live music performed by a vibrant band from ETSU’s Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Roots Music program, while a formal opening ceremony conducted by the ETSU Color Guard helped kick off the day’s events. Music from Nashville recording artist Carl Wayne Meekins kept spirits high, and lively discussions filled the air as veterans explored their options.
Mobile Services at Your Fingertips
Attendees weren’t left wanting for care either, as several mobile units were on-site providing complimentary health services. Remote Area Medical was on hand, offering essential dental care, while Providence Medical Group managed a station for general health needs. Furthermore, the Department of VA Readjustment Counseling Services provided counseling support, and Marsh conducted a vital blood drive.
