Rides, food, and memories mark the final day of the Appalachian Fair

GRAY, Tenn. — The much-loved Appalachian Fair has wrapped up its eventful week, leaving behind cherished memories for all who attended. The fair has been an annual highlight in the Tri-Cities since it started back in 1927, and it continues to capture the hearts of many.

Fair attendee Chad Riggs shared fond memories, “I used to come a lot as a kid; we had a farm in the area growing up. My son is 7 this year, so we flew in this weekend just to do this.”

Even on its last day, the fun and excitement didn’t seem to wane. “It goes upside down and it’s super crazy, and you go sideways,” said Cassi Robinson, describing her favorite ride. The fair boasts a comprehensive lineup for guests to enjoy, from thrilling rides to impressive animal exhibits, captivating concerts, spirited pageants, and, not to forget, a cornucopia of food options.

“I’ve had a corn dog, we’ve had a funnel cake, we’ve had Pardners BBQ on fries with cheese on the side, and we’re going to go get the ultimate burger over here, and it’s going to be good,” Riggs enthusiastically recounted.

For many, the Appalachian Fair isn’t just an event; it’s a yearly tradition. “It’s kind of a tradition every year when the fair comes to town; it’s just something fun and everyone can get together,” shared another fairgoer, Johnny Brown.

The sentiment of nostalgia and community was echoed by Danielle Brown. “So when they grow up, they have good memories of meeting friends here, riding rides, and just the community,” she said.

The sun was shining bright throughout the day, making it a perfect time to savor all the fair had to offer. “It’s so much fun, and it’s hot, and it’s a great day,” Robinson remarked.

Though there was a hint of sadness as the fair drew to a close, visitors are already buzzing with anticipation for next year’s festivities. The Appalachian Fair has a way of bringing people together, creating memories that last a lifetime.

As we look back on another successful year of the Appalachian Fair, it’s clear that this event is far more than just a collection of rides and food stalls. It is a celebration of community, tradition, and joy. Until next year, the memories made this past week will keep the spirit of the fair alive in the hearts of many.

So, while the Ferris wheels stopped turning and the food stalls closed up, the essence of the Appalachian Fair lives on in the laughter, the shared moments, and the excitement that will certainly bring everyone back to Gray, Tennessee, next year.

Stay tuned and keep the memories alive until we meet again under the bright lights of the Appalachian Fair!
