Exciting Musical Event Coming to Johnson City

Johnson City is getting ready to welcome an exciting return of the prestigious Bands of America regional championships! This exciting event is set to take place on Saturday, October 19, at the Ballad Health Athletic Center, affectionately known to locals as the Mini-Dome. It’s a day full of music and talent, and we can hardly wait!

A Day of Music and Competition

The festivities begin early in the morning, with the ticket office opening at 7 a.m. so that eager fans can line up to grab their seats. Just an hour later, at 8 a.m., the first performance will kick off with South Forsyth High School from Georgia taking the stage. This is just the beginning of what promises to be a thrilling day where talented high school bands from across the nation showcase their hard work and creativity.

Dr. Joe Moore, the director of athletic bands and an associate professor in the Department of Music at ETSU, expressed his excitement about hosting this remarkable event. “We are thrilled to host this event and meet the many talented students participating,” he said. “It is difficult to overstate what an honor this is, and especially what it means for the community and the region.” His passion for music and his enthusiasm for the event certainly shine through!

Local Bands Take Center Stage

This year’s event will highlight some of our very own local talent as well! Bands from the area, including Science Hill, will perform at 10:30 a.m. followed closely by Elizabethton at 10:45 a.m. It’s always fantastic to see our local schools represented on a larger stage, and we can’t wait to cheer them on!

As the day goes on, the ETSU Marching Bucs will be putting on an exhibition performance at 4:30 p.m.. This dedicated group has been working hard and has even been preparing for their upcoming appearance at the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. What a remarkable opportunity for them!

How to Attend

If you’re looking to attend and support these hardworking musicians, tickets for the Bands of America championships are available for purchase both online and at the door. That means it’s super easy to grab your tickets and be a part of this grand event. If you have any questions, you can reach out to the Department of Music at (423) 439-4276 or send an email to music@etsu.edu. Plus, if you require any disability accommodations, the ETSU Office of Disability Services can be contacted at (423) 439-8346.

Keeping Things in Mind

As we gear up for this musical extravaganza, we should remember that some bands, particularly those located in areas affected by Hurricane Helene, might face delays or could be unable to attend. As a result, performance times may be adjusted, so it’s worth keeping an eye on updates regarding the schedule.

Join the Celebration!

Mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate the amazing talent of young musicians from across the country! This event not only spotlights the hard work of these students but also brings the community together for a day of fun, spirit, and the love of music. Let’s head out to the Mini-Dome and make some noise in support of our talented performers!
