Gate City, VA

The Virginia State Police (VSP) and the Virginia Missing Children Clearinghouse confirmed on Tuesday night that the AMBER alert for 10-month-old Cedar Samuel Griffith has been canceled. The child has been found safe and well.

The Abduction

Earlier in the week, an AMBER alert was issued on behalf of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office after concerns arose regarding the child’s safety. Cedar Samuel Griffith was last sighted within the vicinity of Daniel Boone Road situated in Gate City. Law enforcement states described him as a black male infant with black hair, brown eyes, weighing approximately 20 lbs, and standing about 30 inches tall. According to the alert, Griffith was last seen wearing only a diaper.

Suspect Details

Authorities believe Cedar was abducted by Ashley Jordan Griffith; a 30-year old white female with blond hair and hazel eyes. The suspect stands at 5-foot-6-inches tall and weighs around 115 lbs. It was suspected that the two might have been traveling in a blue 2005 Lexus RX330 bearing an unknown temporary Tennessee license tag.

Call-to-Action

During the period of the Amber Alert, residents of Scott County and observers beyond were urged to keep an eye out for the described vehicle and occupants. Virginia State Police urged anyone who had any information regarding the whereabouts of Ashley and Cedar Griffith or the vehicle to come forward and contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office or through the emergency hotline, 911.

Outcome

Fortunately, the combined efforts of the community and the law enforcement officials led to the safe recovery of the abducted child, Cedar Samuel Griffith. As of now, the Virginia State Police has not released further details concerning the recovery operation and regarding the suspect, Ashley Griffith. The case continues to be under investigation.

The AMBER Alert System

The AMBER Alert program is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies and broadcasters to activate an urgent bulletin in serious child-abduction cases. The goal of an AMBER Alert is to instantly galvanize the community to assist in the search for and safe recovery of a missing child.
