The Greers Honored with Millligan’s Prestigious Fide et Amore Award

In a heartfelt recognition of over three decades of unwavering service, Milligan University awarded its highest recognition of service, the Fide et Amore Award, to President Dr. Bill Greer and First Lady Edwina Greer. The honor was announced during the university’s commencement ceremonies held at the Mary B. Martin Auditorium.

Faithful Service to Milligan

Dr. Bill Greer, who will be retiring this summer as the university’s 15th president, will continue to lend his expertise to Milligan in the capacity of chancellor. In his new role, he will contribute to maintaining vital external relationships for the university. His spouse, Edwina Greer, has also been a pillar of support to the university, providing gracious assistance to Dr. Greer in his multiple roles over 30 outstanding years of service.

Laurels and Accomplishments

Dr. Greer’s committed leadership has resulted in multiple laurels for Milligan University. He has served in multiple capacities including as the vice president for institutional advancement, chair of the business area, and the founding chair director for the University’s Master of Business Administration course. Notably, under his guidance, the university’s long term financial security has been robustly ensured with the enrollment hitting record numbers, and the endowment thrice the amount before his tenure.

His vision was instrumental in expanding the University’s offerings to include courses like electrical and mechanical engineering at the undergraduate level and a graduate program in physician assistant studies. Additionally, Dr. Greer played a crucial role in the successful transition of Milligan College to Milligan University in 2020 and the integration of Emmanuel Christian Seminary into Milligan.

Recognizing the Greers’ Commitment

In reading the citation for the Greers at the ceremony, Dr. Carolyn Carter, associate dean of Milligan’s William B. Greene, Jr., School of Business and Technology noted, “While Bill’s and Edwina’s resumes boast a wealth of academic credentials, service on corporate and community boards, and professional memberships and awards, their greatest accomplishment is their unwavering love and support for Milligan.”

The Greers have been steadfast champions of student activities, attending various student concerts, plays, and athletic events, both locally and nationally. Working alongside other faculty and staff, they also actively participate in the annual campus workday and assist with welcoming new students and helping them move into the residential halls.

Furthermore, showing their dedication on a personal level, the Greers yearly host dinners for athletic teams, Milligan Honors Program cohorts, student life groups, and others. These intimate gatherings, inclusive of current and retired faculty and staff, truly exemplify the Greers’ heartwarming commitment to the entire Milligan community.

Conclusion

As proud parents of two sons and daughters-in-law, all Milligan graduates, and grandparents of four grandchildren, the Greers eagerly anticipate the arrival of another grandchild later this year. Their lives echo the love and faithfulness demonstrated towards Milligan University, making them the deserving recipients of the esteemed Fide et Amore Award.
