KINGSPORT, Tenn. – In an innovative move to support environmental sustainability and waste reduction, major industry leader Eastman and popular food retailer Food City have rolled out a landmark recycling scheme this week. The program aims at promoting plastic waste recycling in Kingsport.
New Recycling Initiative
The initiative kicked off on Wednesday with the instigation of plastic recycling collection bins at the Food City Supermarket located in Kingsport. In a city where curbside pickup for recycling is not facilitated, these bins represent a significant step towards making plastic recycling accessible and easy for local customers.
These bins will be serving as collection points where local residents can conveniently drop off their plastic wastes. The collected plastics are to be sorted and processed by Eastman’s new complex for processing mixed plastics.

For user convenience, each recycling bin stationed at the Food City Supermarket will sport a QR Code. On scanning, this code will redirect users to a webpage that provides comprehensive instructions on what materials are acceptable for recycling and which ones aren’t.

Although currently limited to Kingsport, the collaborating partners, Eastman and Food City, have visions of expanding this program to various other regions in due course.
