ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. – The welcoming arms of the First Baptist Church opened wide this Thanksgiving as the community gathered to celebrate its 15th Annual Feast of Sharing. This heartwarming event, held on Thursday, served as a testament to unity, generosity, and the spirit of giving.

A Feast for All

As the holiday spirit filled the air, an impressive 1,500 meals were prepared to cater to various needs. Organized by the church, those who could attend enjoyed dining in a festive atmosphere within the church’s dining hall. For others who couldn’t make it out, the team had arranged for meals to be delivered right to their doors, ensuring that no one was left behind in the holiday cheer. For those who simply needed a meal on the go, to-go options were readily available!

Delicious Offerings

What was on the menu, you ask? A feast fit for a holiday celebration! Guests savored succulent ham, aromatic sweet potatoes, crunchy green beans, and a variety of homemade desserts that surely left a lasting impression. The preparations were no small task, as Feast of Sharing Coordinator, Lisa Bunn, revealed, “We’ve been preparing for days!” The excitement could be heard in her voice as she shared the experiences leading up to the event.

An All-Hands-On-Deck Approach

Behind the scenes, the kitchen buzzed with activity. On the day before the feast, volunteers were hard at work, setting up and organizing the space. As the sun rose on the day of the event, dedicated cooks were already in the kitchen bright and early at 5 a.m., prepping and cooking delicious meals that would soon warm the hearts and bellies of many.

More than Just a Meal

This year’s Feast of Sharing didn’t just stop at meals. A coat closet was set up to provide warm clothing, and essential toiletries were offered to those who needed them. This thoughtful gesture showcased the church’s commitment not just to feeding people but to addressing the broader needs of their community.

Community Appreciation

Reflecting on the event, Lisa shared the joy and gratitude expressed by participants: “So many people say, ‘I can’t believe you folks do this.’ But we enjoy doing it.” It was clear that the Feast of Sharing has become a cherished tradition not only for those receiving but for all who contribute to making it happen.
